- Staff:
- People ask why I come in five days a week.
- Staff:
- It's not the coffee. It's not the culture. It's personal space.
- Staff:
- Step one. Claim your space.
- Staff:
- Step two. Arm's length. Minimum.
- Staff:
- Step three. Guard personal space.
- Staff:
- Step four. The bubble.
- Manager:
- Is that tape?
- Staff:
- It's my bubble.
- Staff:
- Step five. Become the cubicle.
- Staff:
- Undefeated. Two hundred and forty days.
- Manager:
- Oh, by the way. We missed the renewal deadline on the office lease. Landlord's giving the whole floor to a new tenant.
- Staff:
- I guess no one respects personal space anymore.
- Manager:
- You can't really guard personal space at work. Not if nobody's watching the lease.

- Manager:
- Starting Monday, desks are flexible.
- Staff:
- Okay. So where do I put my stuff?
- Manager:
- You take it home.
- Staff:
- Every day? I pack it up, bring it home, bring it back and unpack it?
- Manager:
- Or you work from home. You love working from home.
- Staff:
- I do love working from home.
- Manager:
- Great. Then you don't need a desk.
- Staff:
- No, I need a desk. I just don't need to be at it.
- Manager:
- So someone else can use it.
- Staff:
- Who?
- Manager:
- Whoever comes in.
- Staff:
- Have you seen whoever comes in? Have you seen how they leave the kitchen? One of them had a cough last week.
- Manager:
- Then come in and sit at it yourself.
- Staff:
- Every day?
- Manager:
- It's flexible.
- Staff:
- So if I'm not there Monday, somebody's at my desk. With the cough.
- Manager:
- It's not your desk.
- Staff:
- It will be if I'm there at seven.
- Manager:
- See you Monday.
- Staff:
- See you Monday. Wait.

- Manager:
- Can we have a quick meeting about this? In person?
- Staff:
- It's in the email.
- Manager:
- Which email?
- Staff:
- The one I sent Monday.
- Manager:
- I get a lot of emails.
- Staff:
- It's four lines.
- Manager:
- I just think some things are better face to face.
- Staff:
- It's four lines about the meeting.
- Manager:
- Perfect. So we're having one.
- Staff:
- No. The email says it's cancelled.
- Manager:
- See, this is why we need to meet. I didn't know that.
- Staff:
- Because you didn't read the email.
- Manager:
- Because nobody told me in person.
- Staff:
- I'm telling you in person. Right now. This is in person.
- Manager:
- Great. Good meeting.
- Manager:
- Can you send me a summary?
- Staff:
- By email?
- Manager:
- Yeah. I'll read it later.
